It’s officially sweater-weather.

And to us, that means one thing and one thing only: winter jumpers. Because although it might be a little premature to reach for your most heavy-duty winter coat, now is exactly the right moment to stock up on some cosy knits to wear with a quilted jacket or gilet now, and cleverly layered up under some proper outerwear as the temperatures get lower.
At Paris Fashion Week, the street-stylers were wearing their cable-knits layered over floral dresses. In London, it was the effortlessly chic combination of metallic skirts and chunky loafers that captured our imagination.

This season, the rule of thumb with jumpers is: the bigger the better (and that goes for personality as well as size). Thanks to Gucci’s Alessandro Michele (with a heavy side of Harry Styles), a renaissance of the sweater vest has got us thinking about how to factor retro-inspired knits into our outfits, heavy on pattern and punchy colour. (There’s also already been a high street favourite in the Arket Polo Jumper, a clear sign that we’re raring to go when it comes to sweater weather.)

You can be as over-the-top or as understated as you fancy with your chunky knit of choice. Want a classic crew-neck jumper that you will hoard in your wardrobe for the best part of a decade (see Tamu Mcpherson)? We’ve found the one for you. Want something more on-trend and statement? We have you covered in that area, too.

Given that it’s November, now’s the moment to dig out all your favourite woollies. We can all hope for a last blast of sunshine but at least you’ll be prepared when winter really sets in.
