The Costume Institute’s Gala or Costume Institute Benefit regularly called the Met Gala or Met Ball, is a yearly fundraising gala held in New York City for the Costume Institute at the Museum of Art. The Met Gala is sometimes referred to as “fashion’s greatest night” and is widely recognized as the most renowned and glitzy fashion event or social gathering in the entire world. The fashion magazine Vogue hosts the Met Gala, which is open to celebrities who are deemed to be culturally significant to modern culture in a variety of professional sectors, including fashion, cinema, music, television, theater, business, athletics, social media, and politics.
Best Color: Emma Chamberlain in Miu Miu
Although B&W predominated, there were a few colorful accents on the Met Gala red carpet in 2023. Emma Chamberlain looked great in a blue cropped Choupette (get it?) co-ord suit by Miu Miu. We are completely smitten by this preppy schoolgirl meets stylish glam look.
Best Victoriana: Jenna Ortega in Thom Browne
In recent months, Jenna Ortega has unquestionably served look after look at every red carpet occasion. She wore a dramatic, Victoriana-inspired mini-dress in black with a corset by Thom Browne at the 2023 Met Gala, paired with a cropped blazer, to channel Wednesday vibes on the red carpet. Naturally, she put a little prep to the outfit by wearing knee-high socks and schoolgirl heels in black and white. Very true to theme and brand.
Best Gothic Glam: Billie Eilish in Simone Rocha
Like Billie Eilish, no one plays gothic glam better. The singer appeared on the red carpet wearing a lace, corset, and sheer all-black gown by Simone Rocha. She made fun of the fact that she pressured Simone to make the special dress on the red carpet.
The Costume Institute’s yearly fashion display, which is housed on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, opens with The Gala, an event held every first Monday of May. Numerous attendees are shown on the covers as well as the pages of Vogue. The celebration of the Costume Institute exhibition’s particular theme each year establishes the tone for the evening’s formal wear.
Visitors are expected to dress in haute couture and select their outfits to coordinate with the annual exhibit’s theme. With the exception of 1996, when Liz Tilberis, Wintour’s replacement at British Vogue, chaired the Met Gala, the Met Gala has been chaired or co-chaired by the the chief editor of Vogue and global fashion superstar Anna Wintour since 1995.
