LESSON 4

In this lesson, you will learn how to use the WordPress editor and all the tools it gives like SEO tools, the ability to embed posts from other web pages and so much more.

WordPress Editor

Using the WordPress editor is not unlike many writing programs such as Word. We strongly suggest that you use this editor on a desktop or laptop as it is difficult to use on the mobile version. To open the editor click in the left corner where it says the website name or the dial if your using the mobile version.

Then select posts, this will open up all your past posts where you can edit them as necessary. If you are ready to start a new post click the box that says “Add New”.

Now in the box that says Add title write your title. Once again lets not forget if possible, to add a number, a power word and the keyword you want to target with the post. Title should not exceed 60 characters maximum. And Avoid titles with comas, special characters etc. as they will not show in the permalink and will conflict with your SEO.

  1. Now Add title. Here you will enter your title. Avoid titles with comas, special characters etc. as they will not show in the permalink and will conflict with your SEO.
  2. The second thing you will see is the blue box Add Media. This is to add photos, videos etc to your post. We will discuss this more later.
  3. Third you will notice a box with a dropdown. This is where you set weather you are writing regular text as in Paragraph, Heading 1 (you should never use this), heading 2, 3 and so on.
  4. Fourth you have the toolbar. Here you can make text You can make text bold, Italic, set bullet points, numbered points, quotation marks, shift text left, center, or right. You can set links, insert read more tag, toggle toolbar opens up more tools below.
  5. Fifth is the more tools bar. This allows you to strike out text, add horizontal lines, change color of your text, paste as plain text (not recommended), clear formatting, use special characters, indent, and reverse edit. This is espcailly nice when you make a mistake and want to reverse it.
  6. All the way to the right you will see two tabs one is visual and the other is text. It is recommended that you do most of your work in visual since text is html and unless you are familiar with html you should avoid it for now. There are some great uses for text we will address later on.
  7. Once you save your blog, you will see Permalink under your title. You can edit your permalink if it is too long, but should essentially match your title and have hyphens between each word and no commas or special characters. Do not change your permalink after your blog is published as all links you place around the web to your blog will no longer work.

Begin writing your blog

Now you should begin writing your blog. Once again write an introduction paragraph, make a  statement and include your keyword as early as possible in the introduction paragraph. It is highly recommended that if possible you mention yourself within the first paragraph to give the blog authenticity, but this is not required.

Before you begin your next paragraph it is recommended that you add a header as an H2 or H3.  That header should include your keyword as well.

Now write your second paragraph as we said before this should be an example to back up the statement you made in the introduction. Keep in mind sentences should be less than 20 words and each paragraph should be 150 words maximum. If you feel you need to put more, just add another paragraph at the most strategic place.

To set your headers simply highlight the text and hit the dropdown. Select your header by level of importance, H2 should be very important and H3, H4 and so on.

To set links, simply highlight the text you want to be a link, then add the link address in the pop up box.

To add photos you do this by deciding where the photo will go within your blog. Click the spot you want it in and select add media. Then select the file you want to upload from your device and it should populate into your blog.

To embed content decide where you want to embed the content. Then in the right corner of your blog click text and then paste the embedded html content you may have from another page. Switch back to visual to make sure it populated.
