Leather Coat Looks Like The Hero Of Fashion Month – And We Want To Wear One

Vanessa Hong and Tamu McPherson at Paris Fashion week with a busy fashion month coming to a close, there’s a lot to recap. Dua Lipa made her debut on the runway at Versace, Iris Law became our new style crush, and The Simpsons are now wearing Balenciaga. As SS22 trends arrived thick and fast on the catwalks, and the streets, the seasonal mood was most definitely autumnal. And there’s one trend in particular that we can’t wait to take for a spin: leather coats.

Stylist Bettina Looney packed a hot pink leather coat from Bottega Veneta, which she wore with party shoes and a checkered shoulder bag from Chanel, for Milan Fashion Week. Proving that if you nail your statement outerwear, you don’t need to worry about what’s underneath. Clever, no? The fact is, if you’re wearing a fun, bright (doesn’t have to be Bottega) coat, you’re going to feel uplifted when you put it on – no matter the weather forecast.

Looney was in good company where leather was concerned. Influencer Grece Ghanem joined the glossy coat brigade in a forest green iteration for Loewe. Making a case for green and violet together, a coat in a slightly more muted jewel tone (like garnet, topaz, or, like Ghanem’s, emerald) is a great starting point for colorful outfit pairings.

When it comes to leather coats, there are also no rules as to whether you go for real, vegan, or faux leather. It’s all down to personal preference. Nanushka and Staud (both in our edit below) prove how good (and butter-soft) the vegan and faux versions are these days.

Vanessa Hong (joined by Tamu McPherson) also made us want to wear a two-tone version as soon as we saw her in Paris. And thanks to Kitri, you can shop for a similar style right now that, instead of beige and white, is pink and red.

If you think a leather coat might be trickier to incorporate into your everyday look than, say, a classic wool coat or trench, you can go one of two ways. 1) Opt for a safe color (black and tan are always good) and wear them with a tonal palette. 2) Go bold, bright, and brave, picking a colorful style like the street style set.

However you choose to style them, these are the best leather coats to add to your new-season wardrobes.
