The festival of colours is here. I know you are as excited to go out and make a splash into colours as I am. But before we do anything crazy, let’s just dive into some precautions. You don’t want to look like an alien the other day of Holi, do you? Neither do I. So, I am going to share a few tips that I have got from my mother. I follow these rituals every single year, and these have managed to keep my skin and hair safe from the chemicals in the colours of Holi.

1. Rub an Ice Cube On Your Face

Well, I know this is a lesser-known hack, but believe me; it’s going to save your skin a big time. After cleaning up your face, take an ice cube and rub it throughout your face in a circular motion. This would close your open pores. Hence, the least amount of colours would get absorbed into your skin.

2. Sunscreen! Always Wear Sunscreen

After your regular skin ritual, apply loads and loads of sunscreen on your face and body. You will be out in the sun, and those colours aren’t going to save you from getting burned. And, a mistake that we all do is that we forget our lips. Guys, our lips are as sensitive as our face. Make sure you apply sunscreen on that too.

3. Oil Your Hair…And Some More

This sounds familiar, right? Well, yeah! Every Indian mother out there has done this to their kid. Oil your hair thoroughly before going out. Oil makes sure that your hair doesn’t get rough with colours. Also, it helps wash off the colours easily.

4. Petroleum Jelly Is A Must

You must also not forget to apply petroleum jelly to your cuticles, lips, hairline, ears and eyelids. These are the places that become rigid and don’t let the colours wash off easily. With petroleum jelly, the process of washing off becomes really easy.

5. Moisturize Your Skin

You need to apply moisturizer to your skin before stepping out. It’s rather a very common thing to do. But, often we forget it while being in a hurry. It’s going to be dry out there. The colours of Holi have chemicals that can make your body really rough. So, you know what to do!

6. Apply Nail Paint

Even though it doesn’t sound like a “must-do” thing, happing your nails coated with nail paint is really essential. The colours are going to stain your nails if you have no coating on them. The nail paint is not only going to give you a rather “funky” look, but also protect your nails from going multi-coloured and tacky.

There you go. Follow these things and enjoy Holi!
