Here, I’m sharing some knowledge regarding the Gujarati culture and tradition, especially, the best outfit for Gujarati pleasurable dance. Gujarat is a state of diversity. It’s a flourishing state in India. There are different types of dance traditions like Garba Dance, Dandiya Raas, Bhavai Dance and so on.

Garba Raas

Garba is a form of dance that originates from the state of Gujarat in India. The name is derived from the Sanskrit term Garbha. Many traditional garbas are performed around a centrally lit lamp or a picture or statue of the Goddess Shakti. Traditionally, it is performed during the nine-day Hindu festival Navaratri. Traditionally, Women wear Chaniya Choli. It’s a traditional three-piece outfit – Choli ( a blouse) and a chaniya ( a long embroidered skirt) and a heavy dupatta ( a scarf). Men traditionally wear a Kediyu and Kafni Pajama.

Gujarati Dandiya Raas

Dandiya is the folk dance performed also in the festival of Navaratri, which is one of the most revered Hindu festivals.Dandiya or Dandiya Raas also has origins in Gujarat. This dance form is performed in circular patterns with dandiya sticks stricken in rhythmic beats.

Since, the Dandiya dance is usually performed at mid-night after garba raas so we can wear Different types of long and short Ghaghra, skirt, frock with a normal blouse and top with a scarf or without a scarf and we can also wear chaniya choli. Male can get different types of kurta pajamas, dhoti kurtas, and Garba dresses also.

Gujarati Bhavai Dance

Bhavai is a genre of folk dance popular in Gujarat state in western India. The male or female performers balance a number of earthen pots or brass/metal pitchers as they dance nimbly, pirouetting and then swaying with the soles of their feet perched on the top of glass bottles, on the edge of the sword, on the rim of a brass/metal thali (plate) and on the broken glass during the performance. The costume used in the Bhavai Dance: The costume used by females in this dance form includes a long Rajasthani skirt called Ghagra along with a choli which has been embroidered using beautiful mirror work. In addition, the costume also includes beautiful jewelry as well as bangles worn on the wrist.

The Ghagra which in length is shorter than a traditional Lehenga allows the dancers to walk and swirl around gracefully giving them the freedom to move from 1 step to the next without the danger of tripping over and falling. The short-sleeved Cholis goes to the waist and leaves the arms free to adorn them with ornamentations.

Gujarati outfit

The men sport any traditional attire they like. The most commonly seen attire includes a white/off-white set of dhoti with Kurta. On top of this, they make it a point to complete the look by wearing a Kamarbandh (a cloth-like belt) and a very colorful and vibrant sleeveless jacket.
