OMG, Fashionistas, it’s February! Happy new month, y’all (winks). Okay, low-key, February is my dad’s birthday month, so here’s me doing a shout-out to my personal hero. Back to the day, yeah guys, it’s the month of love (smiles), and with it comes Valentine’s day (squeals). And so, ladies and gentlemen of fashion, today we’ll be discussing 8 cheap but fantastic ideas for Valentine’s Day.

When it comes to Valentine’s day, we all have this definition that it’s for couples and lovers only. However, I’m here to tell you that you don’t need to find yourself an emergency boyfriend or girlfriend (yeah, I said it) to enjoy your day. Now, my mum always says that it isn’t the month or the day that makes you love, it’s the heart (aawn right?). This is why this blog will also contain ideas for singles out there to chill, relax and love themselves. Don’t worry, couples out there, I got your back as well.

So, many people have been talking about romantic gifts and cute outfits and sentiments. But let’s talk about the how and where and cost, shall we?

Here are 8 cheap but fantastic Ideas for Valentine’s Day:

1. Home-cooked meals instead of Takeouts

Ideas for Valentine's day I know what you’re thinking, “how is this an idea?” but remember that valentine’s day is gonna be on a Tuesday. Now, for those who work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. or those on a shift, distressing with a home-cooked meal is rather therapeutic. The last thing you probably want to do after a long and stressful day is enter the kitchen. However, making time to cook for yourself is one of the best ways to ensure that your day is still about you. If you have a night shift, spend your day off thinking about whatever you feel like eating and cooking it. This way, you can have fun and relax while still taking care of yourself.

Ideas for Valentine's DayI honestly love it that after a day’s work, I go to domino’s in my sleek formal attire to buy their famous chicken barbecue pizza. But now,  I’d rather get home and change into shorts and sweats, and just roll up my sleeves and cook. It completely distresses every stressed-up muscle and calms me. So, when I’m done cooking my favorite food or craving for the day, I sit in my living room with a movie and a bottle of non-alcoholic wine. Just to have a date with myself. Now, that isn’t a bad idea, is it?

However, for the couples amongst us, why not surprise your spouse or partner with a show of you cooking for them? For example, have you watched Business proposal (squeals)? If yes? You’d know that when a man wears his business casual outfit, rolls up his sleeves, and cooks for his partner, it’s an amazing sight.

2. Be spontaneous

Valentines day ideas When it comes to fashion, being spontaneous is a core key that not many people fathom.  However, when it comes to love, dates, and fashion, change is sometimes good. Imagine switching from an uptight restaurant date night to a day or nighttime beach picnic. It enables you to change your outfit (lol) and is less expensive and more interactive. Trust me, it will be a fun change for both you and your date!

I mean, I would definitely love to kick off my heels and put on simple slip-on sandals, with beach shorts and a flowing shirt. So I could easily take a walk barefoot in the sand while holding hands with my partner and talking about whatever.

3. Do comedy and comfort.

https://www.istockphoto.com/photos/couple-comedy-show Oh c’mon, you don’t have to be so rigid about it. Who says all you have to do is a simple date night? Valentine’s day 2023 is on a Tuesday which means, you get home from work pretty tired, right? Cool, then why don’t you ease some tension off your back and laugh your socks off? Just go with comedy movies or a stand-up comedy show.

You could also indulge in your favorite comfort foods, which we know can sometimes be even better than fancy restaurant meals.

The point is, spend Valentine’s Day doing what you and your partner want to do, not what some stuffy old tradition dictates.

Now whether you’re single or dating or engaged or even married, nothing ever goes wrong with being around those you love and comfort food. That was cheesy, right? (Lol) Anyways, this is the idea I’m definitely hitching for my valentine’s day.

4. Do something extra different

This might sound like being spontaneous but hear me out… You can turn things up by doing things you haven’t done before. Are you a writer? then switch up your artistic side and do some abstract painting. Odd yeah? But all you gotta do is just be you. You don’t have to make a famous art piece just get a whiteboard, empty an area in your home and you and your friends or your spouse can bring out your head-on paintballs side (wink).

If you don’t like that, then can you dance? If you’re like me, then I can’t dance to save my life but some things have gotta change. It doesn’t matter if you’re single, you can absolutely call your peeps and if your hitched, then call your spouse and have a fun night out.

5. Make your own fun

I remember something I did in my second year in school. At that time, I got home so late from a lecture only to go into my room and find a gown that I wanted to test for Sunday service. This is where it gets weirdly interesting for me (lol). So, I wore the gown and went to a lady’s room to let her style it for me, only to be made to sit down.

She along with my other hostel mates did a subtle yet sophisticated make-up for me and we ended up having a made-up runway shoot. My hostel had a wide yard and so we got out a beat-up red carpet and used most of the ladies in the hostel as models.

It might not sound like much but it brought out my inner star and I did it with those I loved. To me, it was another way of showing my passion for fashion. Why? because we ended up posting pictures everywhere. However, in a week, I got likes I have never had in my social media spaces. It was wild.

If you can’t play dress up, then do something cute like gardening with your spouse. I can just imagine my spouse and I, after probably thirty years of marriage and still have time to do some gardening. Just create your own version of fun.

6. Have a spa date

There is no way anyone would give me a gift card for a scheduled spa date that I would reject. Never! A spa date never gets old but instead, it makes valentine’s day outings complete. It might be on a Tuesday, but who says you can’t have a chilling spa date with a bottle of non-alcoholic wine? And another great thing about it is that you can go alone or as a couple or with your friends.

A spa date on Valentine’s Day is a luxurious way to enjoy some quality time with your loved one. If you are single, then why not take your closest friend or a group of your friends and have a fun relaxing spa date?

7. Going on a low-budget trip

Yeah, valentine’s day might be on a weekday but that doesn’t stop one from having fun, right? It doesn’t have to be a faraway place but somewhere you’ve always wanted to visit around you. For example, I stay in Abeokuta, Ogun state, Nigeria and there are a lot of places I’ve always wanted to visit. The thought of visiting those places like the museum, Olumo rock, etc., excites me. It’s even cooler when you get to dress up for it.

It’s either that or you go on a camping trip. I watched an episode of the reality show keeping up with the Kardashians and I saw Kim planning a one-night camping trip. I thought it was something out of the ordinary.

8. A Saint valentine’s themed cosplay

The story of Valentine’s day is a tragic one, yet it remains an important day for celebrating love. Saint Valentine was a roman priest who was caught performing secret marriages for soldiers in the third century. He was last known to have healed his jailer’s daughter and sent her a secret letter saying “Your Valentine.” This was before he was finally killed. While the holiday commemorates his martyrdom, it is also a day to remember the power of love and how it can change lives – even in the face of tragedy.

Now, I know you may be thinking, where am I going with all this? But just for a second, think about it. Let’s celebrate the real reason behind Valentine’s day. Yes, it’s a day of love but it can also be a day of remembering your loved ones and emphasizing your love. If you’re single, you can have a themed cosplay where you and your friends dress up as they did in the third century. This way you can send your love letter to your valentine.

For example, ladies can wear a short-sleeved ankle-length tunic with a pair of roman sandals. Meanwhile, the men can dress up in short-sleeved, knee-length tunics and trousers. This can be a fun and unique way to celebrate Valentine’s Day!

When you’re all dressed up, whether single or in a relationship, then send your Valentine a letter about how you feel. Pretty cliche right?

In conclusion:

Valentine’s Day is an amazing day for everyone and not just couples. It’s a day to spend with your loved ones and family. Contact those whom you remember and celebrate them. Also, have fun while at it. Dress up in a memorable way and show that valentine’s day can be extended to those around you as well as those with you.
