Lip Care? Lips that are pampered? OK let’s talk, because, let’s face it, who doesn’t want that perfect pout?. Our lips, like our skin, require special attention. In comparison to other body parts, the skin layer on our lips is really thin hence the reason why our lips require a special care routine and extra attention.
I never forget to include my lips in my skincare routine/facial. Yes! There are concerns with the lips. During the winter months, your lips may get extremely chapped, whereas, during the warmer months, your lips may become dehydrated or sunburned. As a result, lip care is critical to avoid such problems.
3 Major Causes of Dry Lips
1* Licking your lips dries them out.
2* UV (ultraviolet) radiation from the sun damages, burns, and dries out your lips, resulting in lip discoloration.
3* Smoking promotes lip discoloration and dry, white lips because of the nicotine in cigarettes.
Lips that are chapped and dried out are unattractive, to say the least. Here’s to my 4 favorite at-home lip care treatments/remedies that can help you become used to the sensation of soft, smooth lips too.
LIP CARE 101
1) EXFOLIATING THE LIPS
Chapped lips can’t be cured by just constantly applying lip balms or oils to them. Exfoliation is essential for the removal of dead cells and the appearance of new layers. Exfoliating your lips once at least twice a week will aid in the maintenance of a soft, smooth, and full, healthier appearance.
An exfoliant, such as lip scrubs, is a coarse-grained substance created from minute solid pieces that are used to remove dead skin. Lip scrubs are a simple, at-home technique to exfoliate your lips. When you make a lip scrub at home with the most simple ingredients, you can have a relaxing and delightful experience. This is especially if you’re exfoliating your lips with an all-natural DIY lip scrub that will help eliminate dead and dry skin caused by cold wind or excessive sun exposure.
BENEFITS OF LIP SCRUBS
•Removes dead skin cells.
•Helps to neutralize discoloration and brightens lip.
•Make your lips look plump and healthy and hydrated.
•Soften lips.
HOME DIY LIP CARE SCRUB

1 tbsp sugar (white/brown)
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp of olive or coconut oil
Steps:
• Combine the honey and sugar in a small bowl.
• Add in your preferred oil and mix ingredients together well.
HOW TO APPLY
•Before Appling the scrub on your lips be sure to wipe off any product on the lip.
•Wet the lips with water to soften.
• Apply the scrub and start exfoliating using your lip brush/Toothbrush or washcloth tool for 2-3 minutes.
NOTE: BE GENTLE! Don’t brush or scrub too harshly or this will overly strip the lips
•Rinse off the leftover product.
2) USING A LIP MASK
Lip masks, a rare breed of extremely conditioning products, can soothe, soften, pamper, and plump dry lips, restoring them to their best selves. Lip masks are designed to give your lips a deep dose of TLC when they’re in need.
BENEFITS OF LIP MASKS
•Prevents dry and chapped lips
•Help lips to look plump
•Reduce signs of aging
There are the collagen lip masks and of course the homemade lip mask. I’m a big fan of the DIYs and besides its even better and less expensive.
OVERNIGHT COCONUT LIP MASK
Ingredients
• Coconut oil
• Raw honey
Steps:
• Take equal parts of coconut oil and honey.
• Mix them together in a bowl until the mixture achieves a thick consistency.
• Apply on chapped or dry lips before bed.
• Wash off in the morning.
3) MOISTURIZE THE LIPS
To be honest, the sensation of your lips’ dry skin being stretched as you move is ridiculous and, in most cases, unpleasant, causing blisters or even tears on your lips.
Because our lips lack sweat glands, they lose moisture more quickly than the rest of your skin. Unfortunately, the absence of sweat glands and sebaceous glands causes our lips to become easily chapped, dry, and peel. This is why moisturizing your lips are nearly endless.
A smidgeon of additional credit Lip care may elevate your routine and the condition of your lips to new heights. Whatever your lip moisturizer is, whether it’s a life-changing balm or lip oil.
BENEFITS OF MOISTURIZING LIPS.
•Enhances SPF protection
• Lips appear more supple and full
• Added Softness to the lips
•Ruduces dry, chapped lips
Personally, I preferred a lip balm to moisturize my lip and came across this method on Pinterest, I had to try it, and guess what? Loved it!
Ingredients
1 tsp shea butter
2 tsp beeswax
3 tsp extra Virgin olive oil
2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil
Steps:
•Melt the beeswax, cocoa butter, and olive oil together in a water bath. Make sure the water bath is always just under the boiling point.
•Once the liquid form, stir it all well.
•Let cool as much as possible before it hardens completely and then adds 2-3 drops of the peppermint essential oil and mix it in.
•Pour into whatever container you want to use and let it cool with the lid off until hard and cold.
You can always adjust the ingredients like the essential oils and the proportions can try (lavender, cinnamon, etc.) or add other ingredients(Honey) to suit your preferences. That’s the appeal of a do-it-yourself project.
4) STAY HYDRATED
Water is required for the normal functioning of all of your body’s cells, tissues, and organs. Those lovely lips are included in this. So be sure to drinks lots of water.
If you don’t have a lip care routine as detailed as your skincare routine, time to start. Give your lips that constant attention to keep them moist, supple, and always looking kissable.
